This unit is a great way to provide retrofit CarPlay. CarPlay is the term that has come to represent both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. This system pulls compatible Apps from your phone onto the car stereo for use through the touchscreen.

Not all phone Apps are transferred, it only pulls the ones that are licensed for CarPlay. Anything to do with mapping or music are usually compatible, and this avoids overloading the system. Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Car Parking Apps, Fuel Location, Spotify, Amazon Music are all available. You can also download specific radio station Apps like Planet Rock or Tuneln.

This is a floating HD screen car stereo head unit that sits proud of the dash. It is ideal in vans and motorhomes but may not be suitable for all cars. This depends on the location of other dials and vents in the car, as these may be obstructed by this larger stereo.

As this stereo is floating it can be angled to be almost upright. This generally gives a better display where the dash is curved towards the sun and can avoid sun-glare e.g. T5.

Once in CarPlay most people stay in CarPlay. This means that when Bluetooth calls are received the content is interrupted for the duration of the call and returns to the previous state when the call finishes.

Customers can also access FM and DAB+, outside of CarPlay, via the Kenwood menu on the home screen. These two traditional forms of radio music will also respond to Bluetooth calls, again returning to where you left off, after the call.

Dab+ is the modern form of DAB. DAB+ uses a different set of frequencies for radio stations and can be achieved by re-scanning when in DAB. For a while radio stations had both DAB and DAB+, however more recently radio stations are starting to use just DAB+. This floating stereo is DAB+ compatible and therefore can receive both.

This stereo allows an input from an already fitted reversing rear camera. If the camera was factory fitted, then an integration module will be needed as part of the wiring adaptation. Aftermarket cameras will usually be compatible without adaptation (excluding Android non-branded cameras which are not compatible).

Please note: as will all aftermarket stereo upgrades a reverse grid will be displayed but these lines are not ‘active’ with the steering wheel turn.
